Russ DeVilbiss, Director

Russ DeVilbiss joined Bay Winds as an oboist in 1996 and volunteered to serve as assistant conductor in the spring of that year. After assisting Michael Svec for 15 years, he succeeded him as director upon Svec's retirement from Bay Winds in 2011.
Russ earned an undergraduate degree from Augustana College (Illinois) and taught band in Illinois and Iowa before enlisting in the U. S. Navy to serve as an oboist with the U. S. Naval Academy Band (http://www.usna.edu/USNABand/). In addition to playing oboe and English horn in the Academy Band, his collateral duties included serving as Chief-in-Charge (CIC), Education, CIC, ceremonial band and CIC, Wind Ensemble. Russ retired from the Naval Academy band in 1995 as a Senior Chief Musician (MUCS).
